What You Need to Know about Lights?

Lighting illumination

We can feel its brightness with the naked eye.

We can write the bright light in the form of radiation of heat energy in the form of electromagnetic waves propagating in a vacuum.

The electromagnetic field goes through several stages to reach the desired colour:

Violet, blue, indigo, green, yellow, orange, and red.

The light radiation that cannot be seen with the naked eye is radiation outside the visible spectrum, and its wavelengths may be short as ultraviolet rays or long as those called infrared rays

We can only detect these radiations by special means such as imaging devices and others

Lighting usually contributes to achieving peace and psychological stability for humans, as it greatly affects human health and safety.

The higher the quality and distinctive lighting, the better the psychological state of the person.

3 indicators of opposites

There are three markers for light judgment: luminance, color temperature, and color rendering index.

1-lighting

Illumination is the total amount of luminous fall on the surface of each unit area.

It is a surface-mounted photometer, which can be used in the application of texts as follows: The value used can be measured in a photometer.

High Power High High Luminance Because the lighting fixtures for different types of lights are different between the following group of colors in the example, an 8W LED lamp is as bright as a 40W incandescent.

Did you know that the most commonly used lighting for rooms is 100-200 lux for balcony, storage, bedroom, kitchen, and toilet; 100-300 lux for the living room; 250-500 lux for workspace.

Colour Temperature

2- colour temperature

Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin, using the symbol K, and is a standard measure of light’s appearance – what we generally refer to as “warm” or “cool” light appearance.

There are three basic types of colour temperature for LEDs:

1_ Soft white (2700K – 3000K)

2_ warm white (3500K – 4100K)

3_ Daylight (5000 K – 6500 K). The higher the degrees of Kelvin, the higher the degree of whiteness of the color.

The usual color temperature of various light sources is candlelight 1900K, incandescent lamp 2800K, fluorescent lamp 4500K, sunlight 5400K.

For a quiet ambiance, a lower color temperature is generally recommended, while a higher color temperature is used for a working environment.

The specific colour temperature value is determined by personal preference, but 6500K is the upper limit of the colour temperature.

3-Types of lights:

Artificial light sources are mainly divided into incandescent, halogen, fluorescent, energy-saving.

Bright light

An incandescent lamp is an incandescent light source with a tungsten wire that is heated to a high temperature so that it glows with high visible light.

Incandescent light is close to the equivalent of sunlight with a continuous spectrum and color rendering index.

They are made in a wide range of sizes, wattages, and voltages and are widely used in home and commercial lighting

Compared to other types of electric lighting, incandescent bulbs are the least efficient, converting less than 5% of the energy they use into visible light and usually have a short life – around 1,000 hours.

And the glowing colour temperature is not high enough so it can’t be used in the working environment.

Halogen lightbulb

halogen light

A halogen lamp, also known as a tungsten halogen

It is a type of incandescent lamp that uses halogen gas to increase light output and lifespan.

It is similar to a modified version of the incandescent lamp, which is known for its high efficiency, luminous quality, and has a longer life rating as well as the advantages of a high colour rendering index.

fluorescent light

fluorescent light

Fluorescent is also called a low-pressure mercury lamp.

It is a low-pressure mercury-vapor gas-discharge lamp that uses fluorescent to produce visible light.

It converts electrical energy into useful light more efficiently than an incandescent lamp with the advantages of varied color temperatures and long life of 2500-3500 hours.

The only drawback is that the fluorescent spectrum is not continuous with only about 85 of the colour rendering index, and it takes more than 30 seconds to start up to stabilize.

Energy-saving light:

The energy-saving lamp is also called a compact fluorescent lamp.

It is a fluorescent lamp designed to replace incandescent lamps.

The principle of operation remains the same as in another fluorescent lighting.

It has many advantages:

Compact structure, small size, and high luminous efficiency.

Compared to general service incandescent bulbs which give out the same amount of visible light, it uses one-fifth to one-third of electrical energy and has a longer life of more than 6000 hours.

But the only drawback is that the color rendering index is low and the electronic ballast is easily damaged.

The importance of lighting:

Lighting is the main element in the balance and harmony between all the different elements of the décor and showing them in a manner commensurate with the interior design of the décor. And the feeling of comfort in the place, whether it is home décor, corporate décor, offices, or other different décor designs.

Criteria to consider when purchasing light bulbs:

First: energy efficiency.

Light-emitting diodes, known as LEDs, are used, as they last for a longer period, meaning that they can provide

80% of energy consumption annually by using energy-saving (LED) lamps instead of old light bulbs.

Second: the brightness of the light.

Did you know, folks, that you can save 10 times more energy by using LEDs than by using old incandescent bulbs?

The brightness of a light bulb is measured in lumens, which measures the intensity of the light flux emitted by the bulb

That is, the higher the lumens value, the brighter the lamp.

The degree of glare in the room is related to the nature of the uses and the personal preferences of the owners of the house.

Third: Standards for displaying colors.

One of the most important criteria that indicates the quality of lighting is the way the lamps display the lighting in its true form

The energy-saving lamps have high advantages compared to the old high-glow lamps

If one wishes to highlight a corner in the room, one can rely on artificial lighting colors instead of true color lighting, such as RGB-LED lamps, which mix red, green, and blue.

Fourth: the element of dazzling.

All common light bulbs cause dazzling when viewed directly, and the risk of dazzling can be reduced by using an irradiation angle of fewer than 360 degrees, and glare can be reduced by using light bulbs with housings.

It is advised to avoid dazzling in different places that require difficult visual tasks, such as the kitchen, bathroom, stairs, as well as office room. Here, lamps with a grid or lamps equipped with a reflector can be used, and if the light is reflected from the bulb on reflective surfaces, in this case, it is called reflected dazzle.

In the end, we can never do without all forms of energy or lighting, whether indoors or outdoors, it is the main focus of vision and focus control with high efficiency.
